Report from Baked in the Turks and Caicos

Baked called with a report from the Turks and Caicos this morning. She lives on the island known as Providenciales, they call it “Provo,” where the majority of the population of the TC live, and where the largest town is located.

From what I have been able to find out, this island is about 30 miles away from Grand Turk, which was the hardest-hit island, with reports of 90% of all buildings being flattened on Grand Turk. Apparently, those 30 miles were enough to spare Provo the worst of the winds, and though most everything is damaged, at least its still standing.

She wanted to say “thank you” and xoxoxoxo to everyone at CP who has sent their support and encouragement and love. She mentioned a $1,700 phone bill on her account at the Miami hotel, with $270 of it attributable to JNOV alone, but she said she would have been happier if it were $370, JNOV.

She is safe in a hotel that has power. She had to run a gauntlet of reporters in the airport, her flight was half residents that she knew, and half reporters, and they were camped in the airport trying to interview anyone they could. She told the CNN ratfucker that approached her “fuck you, I’ll talk to you when you start reporting the truth about Cheney’s human organ-mining operation that keeps his evil-ravaged body alive, and start telling the truth about the controlled demolition of WTC building 7.” Actually, I made all that up except the “fuck you,” but she would have, if she had time, I am sure.

To be serious, it’s apparently a scene of devastation, and she is devastated, but so grateful that ALL of her furry friends are alive and well, both kitties made it. She is still concerned about the doggies, though, as she hasn’t been able to get to the kennel.

Everything is still boarded up, all of the stores, and the flooding persists, so she had to make her way to her home through waist-deep water. Fortunately the living quarters are raised up, the bottom level was flooded, but the living area is just covered with mold, and wet from a portion of the roof having been damaged. She is going to spend the day helping distribute supplies to outlying villages in her amazing, unstoppable Jeep Rubicon, she reports that it swims through lakes and drives over downed tree trunks, she has only one gear, forward.

Send her your support, love, and sympathy, CP, and above all, join her in praying that the pharmacy will open soon. Apparently, there are no atheists in hurricanes.
